Well, looks like I posted the very first topic here do I get a prize
Well, I have an OB8 and after I bought it it developed a bad voice in voice 7. I tried swapping out the CEM 3340s and it didn't help, then the 3310s and still no... then, tried replacing all the ceramic caps.. and nope.... then the electrolytics.... still no...........
Its the weirdest problem, its almost as though the DAC is sending screwy voltages to that voice or something because at low pitches the voice works fine, then when you play up the range it sounds like its got a noise mod going on or something and gets nastier the higher the note range. If I play a low note and twist the oscillator to a higher range it remains okay. Voltage problem?? Who knows.....
The one thing I didn't do was replace all those polysterene caps... looks like it could be a big job but I don't know if even that will work.
Anyway, I guess since this is still a baby forum I'll get out a book and read, maybe go for a long hike and check back in a few days... months or years
Thanks |

Well, I guess I didn't need anyone's help after all. Just got a brain storm to try the ribbon connector for the bottom board on the top voice board, to see if it was the eprom sending bad voltages, at first it appeared that it was the eprom because the trouble voice worked fine! Then, I connected everything back together again and it worked
I tried so many things and took out parts and ordered new ones, I even bought new CEM3340s and everything... and to think... just a loose connector?!
It must have been loose on the bottom board, thats all I can think of, because I took the top board off so many times and replaced components but now it works!!! IM SO HAPPY
I hope this is at least helpful to somebody out there |

Great to see you got it working, even if you did have to buy new CEMs, there is a market for these babies, so if you don't need them, you can always get your money back. |
